In case you haven’t heard, or you just live in a place where the word “snow” is rarely uttered, the East Coast has been battered by yet-another heavy snow storm, with accumulation nearing two feet in some places. It’s enough to make a Mustang enthusiast wish for warmer climates and even consider moving to one, though not every pony car driver is afraid of a little snow.
Jack Roush Jr. acquired a set of Pirelli snow tires just in time for a light snow fall, and rather than sit inside and wait for winter to end, he took his ROUSH Performance RS3 Mustang out for a little sideways-sliding action.
With 700 horsepower under the hood and wrapped in Pirelli World Challenge livery that it wears during its day job, you’d think this Mustang would see snow as a sheet-metal bending menace. Snow tire technology has improved by leaps, bounds, and jet packs, providing traction and grip where there should be none. The right set of snow tires can literally save your life.
In this case though, the tires enable Roush Jr. to effortlessly control his massively-powerful Mustang around a parking lot of what we assume are his peer’s personal rides. We know Roush Jr. is a confident driver from his performance in the Pirelli World Challenge, and our own ride along with him at this year’s SEMA show, but it’s also a testament to the difference the right set of snow tires can make.
Imagine trying to drive this track-ready Mustang through the snow on racing tires, or even all-season tires? Unless your name Jack Roush Jr. you probably wouldn’t stand a chance.
