Legendary British boutique sports car maker TVR made headlines when it announced it would unveil an all-new sports car at the revived London Motor Show this weekend. Among the many rumors circulating this revival of an English automotive icon is the return of the Griffith name, and a Cosworth-tuned Coyote 5.0 V8 serving as motivation for the new TVR, according to AutoCar.
TVR is pulling a page straight out of Shelby’s playbook by stuffing a beefy American V8 into a flyweight British chassis, and if the 400 horsepower number is right, the new British sports car could shuffle from 0 to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds. A 500 horsepower version is also rumored to be in the pipeline.
Founded in post-War England, TVR has had a lot of ups and downs in its nearly 70 year existence. The most recent down came under the guidance of young Russian entrepreneur Nikolay Smolinski, who split TVR into three different legal entities and all but destroyed the brand with the announcement that most production would move to Italy. He finally sold the company in 2013 to TVR Automotive Ltd., owned by Les Edgar and John Chasey.
The “base” TVR is slated to start at around $94,000, though the launch edition will sell for considerably more. TVR is targeting a curb weight of around 2,500 lbs, and a convertible version will join the standard coupe. In addition to working with Cosworth, TVR employed the design talents of Gordon Murray.
Though the stop-motion video only reveals artist renderings of the unnamed TVR, we’re hoping the real deal is unveiled at the London Motor Show this weekend.
