We have written all too many sad stories about street racing gone wrong. We’re not going to preach like we’ve never done it, but you don’t have to be a sissy to realize that when you’re focused on racing, you overlook other important things, like cross traffic and red lights. That is why all too often, street races end in wrecks…though sometimes a really close call is enough to scare someone straight.
While trolling YouTube, we came across this video of a would-be street race that almost has deadly consequences for the driver of a late-model Mustang.
The video is brief, but we’ll give you the setup; Mustang, Nissan 240sx, and Cadillac CTS (V?) are lined up at a stop light. It’s a weird setup, with two lights beneath an underpass. When the light turns green, the guy in the Mustang guns it, while the Nissan driver sleeps at the light before burning out and giving chase.
But it’s a good thing he didn’t catch up, because the Mustang driver reaches the second light before it turns green…about the same time a Ford Expedition decides to blow his red light. The result is an extremely close call that would have seriously injured, or perhaps even killed, the driver of either the Mustang or Nissan.
Just another reminder of why you need to keep it on the track. Even if you’re paying attention, it doesn’t mean the other guy is.
