With the EcoBoost engine as an option for the first time in a Mustang this year, there’s been a race within the aftermarket to develop and release parts to fit Ford’s latest Mustang. One of the first to market has been Livernois Motorsports. Long known for their parts development and tuning in the world of Ford performance, Livernois has been breaking new ground with the EcoBoost since last fall.
One area that a lot of owners are looking to for improvements in these cars is the EcoBoost exhaust system. While exhaust has been a traditional upgrade for the Mustang since the first generation, the EcoBoost engine and the S550 chassis presented an all new set of challenges for parts design.
A few months ago, Livernois released their Thunderstorm exhaust system for the EcoBoost Mustang. The Thunderstorm system is available in multiple configurations. This includes three stages ranging from a simple down-pipe upgrade for stage 1, to a full exhausts system in stage 3. The system is also available with and without catalytic converters and is constructed from T304 stainless steel.
Livernois recently put together a video on what this system sounds like. While it’s not the deep rumble of a Coyote engine, it is a definite improvement over the stock Mustang EcoBoost’s exhaust note. We also find it interesting that the system doesn’t add any drone or unwanted NVH to the cabin of the car.
We know most Mustang die-hards aren’t used to the sound a 4-cylinder Mustang. The potential within the EcoBoost engine and the power that bolt-on parts can add however, is undeniable.
