The 2011 Mustang GT has proven time and again it’s true grit in being a 10-second capable ride as it rolls off the showroom floor with some rather minute performance modifications, making it quite possibly the baddest ‘Stang FoMoCo has ever produced.
The guys at Lethal Performance have teamed up with 5.0 Mustang Magazine on a supercharged 5.0L project car, and recently made some stellar passes at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida, netting a best of 10.39 at 133.25 MPH. The GT is powered by a completely stock engine, with stock exhaust manifolds, suspension, and the factory six-speed transmission. The rather minor engine modifications include a 2.9L Whipple blower, 123mm Whipple intake, and a L&M 66mm throttle body. Other changes such as Lethal’s own 3″ offroad X-pipe, a DSS driveshaft, Mcleod RXT clutch, Bogart wheels with rear slicks, and an SCT X3 tuner round out the mod list. Noted tuning wiz Jon Lund of Lund Racing handles the duties of getting the combination dialed in.
The Lethal team hit the PBIR quarter mile to take advantage of the cooler winter air, hoping to lay down some numbers with C16 race fuel and a little added boost in tow. And they did just that. The first two runs were throwaways after tire spin right off the line, but the third netted a great 10.45 with a 1.43 60′ clocking with some adjustments on the launch and a little granny shifting. Looking to better that on the next pass, driver Jeremy Martorella incurred some shifting issues with the factory chrome shifter knob and missed third gear. On the final run of the night, Jeremy cranked off a 1.45 60′ and power shifted the car through the traps in 10.39 seconds, marking its best elapsed time to date.
Despite plenty of additional headroom in the 5.0″ “Coyote” block, Lethal Performance is forging on with plans for a fully built engine utilizing an aftermarket block, a triple return fuel system, and even more boost. It may be cold outside, bu the 2011 Mustang wars are as hot as ever.
