Once again the folks at Hennessey Performance have knocked it out of the park with another high horsepower, high caliber package for Mustang enthusiasts. This time around, the good old boys out of Sealy, Texas, have dabbled even further in the Shelby GT350 platform. When we last caught up with Hennessey, they were merely testing their GT350R mule at top speeds.
Today’s segment however, is a bit different. Sporting the highly anticipated HPE800 Supercharged Upgrade, this GT350 mule puts down more than 733 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels on HPE’s in-house Dynojet dyno. Majority of that power is made thanks to a 2.9-liter supercharger system, but a slightly lower compression ratio of 11.0 (versus 12.0 from the factory) helps make that power reliably.
The lower compression aids the 5.2-liter Voodoo engine take better advantage of the increased amount of boost by using forged aluminum pistons and forged steel connecting rods. Coupled with a carbon fiber high-flow air induction system, an upgraded fuel pump, and an upgraded set of injectors, you’ve got a recipe for one stout setup – enabling you to make tons of more power later down the road.
If you ask us, what truly perplexes our minds is that this Shelby is making nearly 850-plus horsepower at the crank, has an incredibly flat torque curve, yet still revs to 8,250 RPM – and that’s on only 8 pounds of boost. We can’t help but think to ourselves; what would happen if you cranked up the boost?
