Ford took no shortcuts when it came to bringing back the BOSS Mustang, pumping the 5.0 liter Coyote engine up to 444 horsepower and giving it a whole bunch of off-the-shelf racing components. The Laguna Seca Edition BOSS 302 even more so, as it is essentially a street legal race car with speed and the handling capabilities to match.
Then Hennessey Performance Engineering went ahead and strapped a supercharger to their silver-and-red Laguna Seca BOSS 302. On the dyno, it made 563 rear-wheel horsepower and 475 ft-lbs of torque. But what does that translate into on the drag strip? HPE went to the strip to find out.
563 rear-wheel horsepower translates into about 650 at the flywheel, which should make for some good quarter-mile times. The launch was really, really soft, and probably for a good reason. The Laguna Seca Edition Mustang is named after a road course, not a drag strip, and the suspension setup is far from ideal. So despite the addition of a supercharger and an extra 200 horsepower over the “base” BOSS 302, the drag strip time is only four-tenths of a second faster than what Motor Trend got in their test car.
But that was with a baby launch, and a suspension set up for road racing. And aside from actual E/T, the speed was way higher than the base BOSS 302, which went about 115 mph through the 1/4 mile. That 124 mph mark means that there’s enough power for a very low 11 second run. We suspect this is just the first step in a grand scheme for making a supercharged Laguna Seca BOSS 302 an extra-special supecar. We’re looking forward to some more videos of this supercharged Mustang soon.
