While we spend most of our time talking about Ford’s premier sports car, the Mustang, the Blue Oval is taking the performance of its compact offerings very seriously as well. For us regular consumers, Ford will start offering the 247 horsepower Focus ST next year. For racing types with bigger budgets, for recently announced and priced the Focus ST-R at $98,995.What does do you get in an almost $100,000 Focus? Ford put together this little walkaround video to give you an idea of whats going on with the Focus ST-R.The Focus ST-R, which is being designed to compete in the ST class of races like the Grand Am Series, will use the same 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine found in the street-going Focus ST. However, it will be tuned for race gas, and should make a bit more power as a result. The six-speed manual transmission is also the same, as is the production body. But that’s where the similarities end.The brakes are bigger, the three-way adjustable coil-over suspension is different, and the stripped interior is way, way different. Right from the factory the ST-R comes with a FIA-approved roll cage, Recaro seats, and an AEM data logger. Even the bushings are different. Check out the brief video for more info, and a few clips of the Focus ST-R in action. And yes, it sounds sufficiently awesome.
