The Blue Oval is planning a massive, year-long celebration of its iconic pony car, including limited edition Mustang memorabilia and Mustang birthday parties on both coasts. What celebration would be complete without a video tribute though?
Ford announced that it will begin a series of weekly videos as part of the “Mustang Countdown, tracing the culture and history of the Mustang throughout the past 50 years. The history lesson kicked off with a look at the original Mustang concept car, which didn’t look much like a Mustang at all.
The next video returns to the 21st century with a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaker Zach King’s viral video hit, “The Cliche RC Action Chase.” This pint-sized action scene stars two mini-Mustangs, and brought Ford to King’s doorstep.
King’s short film quickly garnered over 3 million views thanks to its expert-level cinematography and editing that turned a short RC action chase into a scene straight out of any Hollywood blockbuster. Starring two remote-controlled Shelby GT500 Mustangs, this film drove straight from YouTube into our hearts.
Over the next few months, the Mustang Countdown will look at the long and illustrious history of America’s favorite pony car. Starring in over 3,000 movies, television shows, and video games, the Mustang has an incredible motorsports and hot rodding history to draw upon as well. In addition to looking at the first Mustang concept, Ford has also gone back to look at toys inspired by their intrepid pony car. This next year will be an epic one for Mustang fans, so stick with us if you don’t wanna miss any of the action.
