Many Baby Boomers have already retired, and many more are well on their way. People choose to spend their retirements in different ways. Many people head for warmer weather in places like Florida, while others pursue dreams long-deferred, like travelling across country in a RV. And still other Boomers want nothing more than to hop behind the wheel of some American muscle and tear up the drag strip.
This video shows how one near-retiree chooses to spend his free time; racing his 2003 Ford SVT Cobra at the drag strip. According to the video the car makes 755 hp at the wheels and there’s a sixty-year old man at the wheel, what we know for sure is this Mustang owner really knows how to haul ass.
The 2003-2004 SVT Cobras have a solid reputation as serious power makers, thanks to their supercharged 4.6 liter V8 engines, the cars are often referred to as “Terminator” as this was SVT’s internal name for the program when the car was being developed. A few modifications can make a lot of power on these cars, and an upgraded 3.4 liter Whipple supercharger is one of the mods that help push power on this Cobra up to 755 ponies.
To help accommodate that extra power, this Cobra also ditches the usual factory IRS system and replaces it with a solid rear axle. All you Mustang fans who have been crying for an independent rear-suspension on regular Mustangs surely cringed at that, but when we’re 60-years old, we’ll be sure not to give a damn what anyone else has to say about our drag cars either. With the ability to row his own transmission to a 9.7 at more than 141 mph, we’d say this old man has earned the right to do whatever he wants to his Cobra.
