The 2011 Mustang GT with the all-new 5.0 V8 engine gets a lion’s share of the attention around here, and with good reason. With 412 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque in an attractive chassis that evokes memories of old and visions of the future, the 2011 Mustang GT is well deserving of all its accolades. However, Ford invested a lot of time and money into the new Mustang V6 as well, and the aftermarket has taken to this base powerplant with surprising gusto and impressive modifications.

We came across this video on YouTube with aforementioned 2011 Mustang V6 on the dyno, and with some very basic modifications this car nearly made 300 wheel horsepower. Not bad for a base Mustang!

From the factory, the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 is rated at 305 horsepower at the flywheel and 280 ft-lbs of torque. These are not bad figures for any V6 engine, and not far off from the 2010 Mustang GT’s V8 engine rating (which made only 315 horsepower at the flywheel). However, like most of these factory engines, these motors respond very well to modifications.

A stock 3.7 liter V6 engine puts about 260 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque down at the wheels, which is respectable, but leaves room for improvement. With just a handful of modifications, including an exhaust, cold-air intake, and a 93 octane race tune, this mighty V6 Mustang put down a bunch more power. At the wheels it made 293 horsepower and 276 ft-lbs of torque in 77 degree weather with high humidity (hardly ideal conditions). The owner was hoping for 300 horsepower at the wheels, and with just a few more mods should be there easily. The 2011 Ford mustang V6 is shaping up to be quite the performer, even if it is missing two cylinders.
