The death of Carroll Shelby has brought about the uncertainty of his legacy going forward with Ford, but worry not; Shelby will continue to be the top-tier Ford performance brand just as it has been for the past decade. But that doesn’t mean changes aren’t coming, and the rumored demise of the GT500 has been tempured by talk of the return of the GT350.
Mustang6g’s spy photographers were on assignment in Detroit when they caught a big prize; what looks to be the all-new Shelby-based Mustang out testing around Ford’s Dearborn headquarters. GT350 or GT500, we like what we’re hearing, though we’re still in the dark on the details.
The heavily-camouflaged test car reveals little in the way of what the next Mustang will look like, though some of the better renderings have come rather close to what we imagine the final product will look like. But this video isn’t about the sights, but rather the sound of a gurgling torque monster deserving of the triple replay that it gets in this video.
While we love the sound of this supposed supercar, we didn’t hear the telltale whine of a supercharger, nor the sucking sound of a turbo. What we heard was a naturally-aspirated V8 with a well-tuned quad-tip exhaust system, indicators in the camo, in the area of the exhaust, the hood scoop, and the fender openings suggest that this is not just another GT test mule.
Could the Shelby GT350 separate itself from the GT500 by doing away with forced induction entirely? That’s the rumor that we’ve heard anyway. Tell us what you think in the comments.
