The EcoBoost Mustang continues to make waves in the performance aftermarket. While some can’t get quite used to the sound of a four-cylinder Mustang, others are looking for ways to make their EcoBoost sound more aggressive. ROUSH Performance is offering an EcoBoost exhaust that might be just the answer, and is featured in the video above.
The ROUSH exhaust is what we’d term an axle-back. It’s made from corrosion resistant T-304 stainless steel, and features four-inch tips to fill the gaping space in the rear valance that Ford obviously left there so the aftermarket could do something with it. The exhaust tubing is mandrel bent, and also uses OEM mounting points.
We love the way this exhaust fills out the rear bumper, a Mustang just doesn’t look right with those tiny factory tips. What’s even better though is the sound. While it may take a little while to wrap your head around the idea of a four-cylinder performance Mustang, we’re digging the sound from this exhaust system. Listen closely as the car is revved, and you can clearly hear the whirr of the turbo. You have to admit that’s pretty cool, and definitely adds some aggressiveness to the quiet EcoBoost engine.
Installation is said to take around an hour, and while there’s no welding involved, the stock pipes do need to be cut. ROUSH includes all the hardware to do the job, and if you have a sawz-all, and are competent with most hand tools, you can probably handle this one with a jack and jack stands on your garage floor. This same system is available for the 2015 Mustang V6, and there’s also a system available for the 5.0 Mustang GT.
