When Ford unveiled the 2012 Focus ST at the Paris Auto Show, they insisted that it was technically still a concept. It is a very complete concept though, a marriage of Ford’s all-new hatchback and their increasingly popular line of EcoBoost engines. Ford has been selling turbocharged Focus’s in Europe for nearly a decade now. It is about time America got in on this turbocharged action.
To further tease us, Ford has released a brief video of the Focus ST traipsing through the countryside to some gentle tunes. Couldn’t give us even a brief exhaust note, Ford?
A brief recap for the uninitiated. The 2012 Focus ST is powered by a 247 horsepower 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbo engine. While it appears to be a front-wheel drive car, the Focus ST gets some of Ford’s excellent front-differential technology to help spread out the 266 ft-lbs of torque. While still a concept car, there is little doubt that this car will actually hit the market, especially now that Ford has released video of the hot hatch rolling through the hills.
This is a very sharp car, especially for a four-door hatchback. The big wheels, aggressive front fascia, and center-exhaust all scream performance. The big orange brakes are clearly visible behind the wheels, and one can see the sport bucket seats sitting pretty inside the cabin. We have just two questions; how much will it cost, and when can we get one?
