Americans have pioneered many different types of motorsports. However, Europe has plenty of races all their own, rally racing being amongst the most popular. Rally racing has had a hard time catching on in the U.S., though progress is being made, especially by Ford.
Over the weekend, Tanner Foust took the first the win in the first U.S.-based RallyCar Rallycross event. Behind the wheel of his hopped-up Ford Fiesta, Foust was unstoppable.
RallyCar is the sanctioning body behind the Rallycross event. Rallycross has been popular in Europe for years, but just got its debut at this year’s X Games (which Foust also won). This past weekend was the first RallyCar Rallycross event outside of the X-Games. Rallycross is a combination of circuit, off-roading, and rally racing all mashed into one competition. The event generally includes six cars starting at once, which means there is plenty of room for spectacular accidents too.
One of the main draws of the Rallycross event is that it also includes a lot of jumping. Jumping cars is pretty awesome, and Rallycross includes a bunch of different racing surfaces include dirt and tarmac. Foust took home the gold, which isn’t surprising given his experience in European Rallycross. There are two more Rallycross events planned for this year, the next one taking place October 2nd and 3rd at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
