What’s better than a Factory Five Racing build? Well Summit Racing Equipment and Factory Five Racing have teamed up to build a Factory Five Mk4 Roadster that anyone armed with a Summit Racing “Big Book” catalog can duplicate. That’s right, this is a full do-it-yourself build that Summit has taken on to highlight hundreds of parts at your fingertips.
“What better way to show enthusiasts how Summit Racing is the ‘one-stop shop’ way to build a car than with the world’s most popular replica car?” explained Jeff Winters, Summit Racing Chief Marketing Officer. “Other than the components in the Factory Five kit, every part on this car is available at Summit Racing. You can build a Mk4 Roadster as a street machine, autocrosser, road racer, drag car—you decide what you want to do, and Summit Racing will help you reach your goal.”
The Summit Racing/Factory Five Mk4 project is in the capable hands of Rick Sheley at SKJ Customs in St. George, Utah and is already underway. SKJ Customs is well known for building high-end Factory Five cars (including GTMs and ’33 Speedsters) and has appeared on Speed Channel’s Car Warriors show. Murray Pfaff of Pfaff Designs created the Mk4’s paint scheme pictured here. The paint is Summit Racing’s own Killer Gray Metallic 2-Stage Base Coat/Clear Coat.
The build is already underway, check out a few spy photos of the build:
Summit Racing is supplying the parts needed to complete the Mk4 kit from manufacturers including Edelbrock, Ram Clutches, ARP, March, Powermaster, and Melling. Major components include:
• Ford Racing 427 Boss short block
• Trick Flow Twisted Wedge® 185 cylinder heads, Track Max® camshaft, and roller rocker arms
• Ford Racing Tremec TKO 600 five-speed transmission
• Summit Racing Carburetor/Fuel Line Pro Pack and Stage 2 intake manifold
• MSD Pro-Billet distributor and Digital-6 Plus ignition
Summit Racing will be offering Pro Pack combos of the parts used in the Mk4 build. This “recipe” allows enthusiasts wanting to duplicate the project to purchase parts in affordable, performance-proven packages.
The Summit Racing/Factory Five Mk4 is scheduled to be finished by the end of this month to make it’s debut in July. Follow the progress of the build on Summit Racing’s blog, OnAllCylinders, and see the car in person in the Summit Racing display at the Goodguys PPG Nationals, July 6-8 in Columbus, Ohio.
