SPEC Builds Clutches… and Dreams

Photos: Temple Performance

When Temple Performance Cars of Atlanta, GA, needed a clutch system to handle the output from their high performance cars, they turned to SPEC for the strength and reliability they knew their customers would demand. Whether building their 650 HP Legend X Mustang, or putting together a 6-speed manual conversion for a Lincoln Mark VIII, SPEC products are an important part of the process.

SPEC builds a full line of products, so whether you’re driving a dream or a nightmare, visit the SPEC web site for more information.

The Lincoln Mark VIII is still a favored car among Ford enthusiasts, because it’s 4.6-liter engine can be pumped up with a wide selection of Mustang performance parts that are available. Once the big power is waiting to get out, switching to a manual transmission is the fastest way to boost the fun factor by an order of magnitude. Temple’s kit consists of a Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission with Ford Racing short throw shifter, SPEC High Performance clutch and Coast Driveline aluminum driveshaft.

Temple’s 650 Horsepower Legend X Mustang is more than just a special edition. You’d have to call it a special experience after reading through the mods list. Starting from the 2.6-liter intercooled Kenne Bell Supercharger with 18psi boost and custom tune, through the custom sculptured seats and leather wrapped steering wheel and into the forged internals of the stroked 5.0-liter engine, you know that this company depends on the best to support its name.

A similar 6-speed conversion kit is used on their 2010 Legend X Mustangs and that includes the SPEC Super Twin dual disc clutch.

The Super Twin offers near-stock drivability, tremendous life expectancy, a no shimming/setup bolt-in installation and maintenance free operation. With all billet construction, these units are smooth and quiet. The super twin is constructed with aircraft grade aluminum and high-carbon billet steel milled to one-thousandth of an inch tolerance for perfect balance and performance.
