When the Shelby GT350R-C debuted at Watkins Glen last year, we were completely thrilled at the idea of seeing the car compete in the road-racing world. Since the debut, the car has dominated the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, and drivers like 16 year-old Austin Cindric of Multimatic Motorsports have driven the car to first place podium finishes.
With the new year comes a new season of the IMSA CTSC, and the drivers of the Shelby GT350R-C racecars have already begun to dominate the season with their first and second podium finishes at the BMW Performance 200 event in Daytona, Florida. Multimatic Motorsports drivers Billy Johnson (No. 15) and Paul Holton (No. 76) had the privilege of driving the Shelby GT350R-C racecars in the Grand Sport class.
“It was great to see two Ford Performance Shelby GT350R-C racecars on the podium after all the hard work everyone’s done getting the car to where it’s at,” Johnson said. “It’s the first time the car’s competed at Daytona and we’re really happy to be in victory lane with the car and a 1-2 finish for the GT350R-C. Scott did a fantastic job on the first stint and I just can’t thank him and the team enough for all the hard work and good job they do.”
Roush Yates is the official engine sponsor of the Shelby GT350R-C racecar for this year, working in conjunction with Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports to create a finely-tuned and reliable powerplant. “What a way to start off the season, a 1 – 2 finish” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates. “Winning the BMW Performance 200 today, to kick off the Rolex 24 at Daytona weekend is a great way to start the year.”
