While the 1969 Shelby GT350 and GT500s are regarded as some of the best Shelby Mustangs to date, fans of the Blue Oval will know that the transition in 1969 was a bit of a complex one. In ’67, GT500 assembly took place in Los Angeles, California, while in ’68, production relocated to Ionia, Michigan, for one year before returning back to Los Angeles, California, in 1969.

By summer the of ’69, Carroll Shelby had backed out completely with anything to do with the Ford and Shelby Mustangs. Alas, leaving Ford to bear the Shelby Mustang moniker by itself. As such for 1969, the GT350 then came equipped with a 351-cubic-inch Windsor, while the GT500 utilized the fairly new at the time 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8.

And here we are, full circle with this 1969 Shelby GT500 brought to us by Mecum Auctions. Finished in Acapulco Blue, it was sold new at Frontier Ford in Rockford, Illinois, in 1969 and only wears a handful of factory options. For starters, the aforementioned 428 CJ is paired to a C6 Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Inside the cabin of this Mustang, you’ll be greeted with a charcoal interior with factory AM radio and air conditioning, deluxe belts and warning light.

This Shelby also features factory power front disc brakes and power steering, a Traction-Lok differential and race-tuned suspension. The car is documented by two build sheets, along with a copy of the Shelby window sticker and a full Marti Report as well.
