The U.S. government has turned up the scrutiny on automakers following a series of high-profile accident investigations and recalls. Every major automaker has been caught up in a recall scandal it seems, though it isn’t just the big players that have to worry. Small niche automakers like Roush that regularly modify production vehicles need to watch out too.
You can never be too careful with these things, especially when it comes to the brakes, which is why Roush issued a recall for its 2015 Mustang Stage 3 vehicles. Models equipped with the Roush Extreme Duty Half Shafts may have a loose brake caliper guide that could reduce the effectiveness of the rear brakes, reports Consumer Affairs.
As far as recalls go, this is both a cheap and quick fix for the Livernois, Michigan-based manufacturer, especially compared to the scandals that have swept up GM and Fiat-Chrysler, amongst others. GM’s refusal to recall cars with a defective ignition switch is blamed for over 100 deaths, and millions of Fiat-Chrysler vehicles equipped with the company’s UConnect infotainment were shown to be vulnerable to hackers.
We doubt any major news shows or channels are going to pick up on Roush’s recall, which affects just 461 vehicles. While the loss of the guide pin can lead to a partial loss of braking at the rear end, increasing the chance of a crash, Roush RS3 Mustangs typically come equipped six-piston Brembo brakes up front for serious biting power. Of course with 670 horsepower on tap, it’s easy to get into trouble in the RS3 too. Best to get this recall over with quickly.
The recall campaign began on January 11th, with Roush notifying owners and performing the fix for free.
