The Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Motor Trend is proud to announce the entry of the ROUSH Performance for the 2011 One Lap of America. ROUSH Performance will be entering two production 2012 Roush vehicles in this year’s competition. The 2011 event is the 28th edition of Brock Yates’ cross country challenge for driving enthusiasts.
Roush has also announced a stellar driver lineup of Jack Roush Jr. and Billy Johnson who, most recently, have been competing in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, posting top five finishes in every race bar one. This year’s event will begin at Tire Rack in South Bend, Indiana with registration on Friday, April 29th. Competition starts the following morning at 9:00 a.m. when Tire Rack will host One Lap of America competitors to a Wet Skid Pad Challenge.
“ROUSH is excited about entering the One Lap to prove the upcoming 2012 vehicles. I consider the One Lap as being the perfect venue to showcase our new line-ups’ ability to be driven to a track, put through the paces, and driven back home. The One Lap’s format of ‘Race, Run and Re-do’ is congruent with the Roush Performance philosophy. Billy and I are looking forward to personally proving the 2012 vehicles’ capabilities.” commented Jack Roush, Jr.
In the early 1970’s Brock Yates, senior editor of Car and Driver Magazine created the now infamous Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash; a flat out, no-holds-barred race from New York City to Redondo Beach, CA. Later, in 1984, the first Cannonball One Lap of America was run from Darien, CT. The initial format was simple – circumnavigate the lower 48 states and “guess Brock’s mileage.” The team who came closest to Brock’s distance won.
Today, the One Lap of America combines the challenge of endurance driving – though at legal speeds – with the highs and lows of on-track, high speed competition. It is the thing that legends are made of… every year. If you want a chance to run beside the ROUSH Performance team and many other notables that show up, check out the One Lap web site, break open the piggy bank and book some vacation, starting at the end of April.
