When you think of Ford Mustangs, only a handful of intricately-linked names instantly come to mind, and Roush Performance is undoubtedly among that handful. And thus, it only seems natural that Roush would have direct ties to the world’s leading all-Ford Drag Racing Series – the NMRA – where much of their customer base is.

Although already providing support to a number of NMRA racers, including founder Jack Roush’s daughter Susan Roush-McClenaghan and Don Bowles, the high performance aftermarket manufacturer stepped up its involvement this week by announcing its sponsorship of the Super Stang category, one of the NMRA’s most popular classes.

Super Stang features S197 Mustangs utilizing OEM Ford Modular 4.6L, 5.4L, 5.0L Coyote, and V-6 engines competing in an index-based format. A glorified form of traditional bracket racing, Super Stang operates on a static dial-in, which racers set prior to the first round of eliminations and must retain throughout each round. The class’ guidelines for ’05 and later Mustangs only certainly appeals to the Roush Performance market.

The Super Stang category often attracts 25 or more cars per event, many of which comes from high performance shops such as Evolution Motorsports, JDM, and Brenspeed. Longtime NMRA competitor “Rock’n” All Miller is the reigning Super Stang champion. The 2012 NMRA season, featuring Super Stang and the rest of the series’ popular heads-up and index classes, kicks off March 1-4 with the 18th annual Spring Break Shootout in Bradenton, Fla.
