ROUSH and Grand Am Drivers Looking Forward to One Lap

The 28th running of the Tire Rack One Lap of America will start at the end of this month. With 3,500 miles to cover and eight days to do it in, the challenge becomes more significant when you add in competitive track events along the way. All participating vehicles must be street legal.

“I can’t wait to get the new ROUSH RS3 out on the road or even better, the track. I think the One Lap of America is a perfect event to showcase the new RS3 and its ability to be driven to a track, put through the paces, and driven back home. Billy and I are looking forward to personally proving out the 2012 ROUSH Stage 3’s drivability and performance capabilities.” said Jack Roush, Jr.

ROUSH Performance is entering two of their recently revealed 2012 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustangs in the perennial event. The cars will use only equipment and options taht can be ordered with any RS3 car. For the event, cars are being equipped with the ROUSH Competition 6-Piston Brake Package and ROUSH Competition Coil-over Suspension System.

Originated by automotive writer and former senior editor of Car and Driver Magazine, Brock Yates, the 2011 event will be overseen by his son, Brock Yates, Jr. The very first Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash was an extra-legal event to drive from New York City to Redondo Beach, CA, in the shortest time possible. The event and its four successors were later portrayed in the Hollywood productions Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit II.

ROUSH Performance will also be providing a new Stage 3 convertible as the official media vehicle for the week long event. The RS3 convertible will be utilized to follow the event and provide real-time updates about the One Lap event and ROUSH Performance vehicles as they navigate across the country and compete with other entrants at a number of racetracks along the way.
