Beginning his NASCAR racing career behind the wheel of a Plymouth but ending it in a Pontiac, Richard Petty dominated stock car racing during one of its most exciting eras. Besides Plymouth and Pontiac, Petty also drove for Dodge and Ford, painting them in his familiar shade of Petty Blue. And while Petty himself hasn’t taken to a NASCAR track since a memorial ride for Bill France Jr. in 2007, he remains an active and charitable owner for his racing team, Petty Motorsports.

Racing once again under the Ford flag, Petty Motorsports has put its signature twist to a 2015 Mustang that will be auctioned off to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America organization.

“It’s important to me that we really support Paralyzed Veterans of America and those who fought for our freedom,” says Petty. “We have specially built this Ford Mustang in my garage to take out to the Mecum Auction. It has all the performance upgrades you need including over 600 base horsepower and much more. The seats even match my cowboy boots! It’s truly a special piece and one that I hope to see raise a lot of money for the cause.”

Featuring a supercharger and the aforementioned boot-matching leather interior, the Richard Petty-inspired Mustang wears a black coat with twin Petty-blue racing stripes. The hood, roof, front spoiler, and side skirts are also dressed in the signature shade, though the real draw here should be the charitable nature of this auction. The Mustang remains a popular charity auction choice as it’s a high-profile, highly-desirable vehicle, and adding the Petty touch should only add to its value.

This custom Mustang going to a good cause should easily cross the $100,000 threshold, at least according to our guesstimates, when it crosses the auction block at Mecum’s Dallas event next week.
