Richard Petty Built ’17 Mustang GT Headed To Mecum Auctions

When Richard Petty and the folks at Petty’s Garage out of Randleman, North Carolina, were tasked with building a 2017 Mustang GT for the Paralyzed Veterans of America foundation, they did not disappoint.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America foundation was originally founded by a band of wounded soldiers who had returned home from World War II, and had suffered from spinal cord injuries as part of their military service. Fast forward to today, and this organization continues to be dedicated to providing all veterans and people with disabilities with everything they need to live full and productive lives.

“Richard is extremely involved in this build and that’s something unique,” said Will Cheek, Petty Garage aftermarket and restoration sales manager. “He knows we’re building this for Paralyzed Veterans of America so he wants it to stand out a little bit. Every time he goes through the shop he comes by and looks at it. When they were laying out the stripes and putting the stripes on it, Richard was very involved in telling them what he liked and what he didn’t like, and how he wanted it to be. He’s really involved in each detail of this car.”

This unique 2017 Mustang GT built by Petty’s Garage will be donated to the Mecum Auctions, and will be available at this year’s Kissimmee 2017 event in Kissimmee, Florida.

All of the proceeds will directly benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America foundation; and the new owner will also acquire a “unique automobile born of a unique collaboration between Ford and Petty’s Garage, the King’s very own high-performance speed shop founded in 2008 and operating out of Randleman, North Carolina,” according to the original ad.

“We are honored to work with Richard Petty on this car and raise funds through Mecum Auction,” said Al Kovach, Jr., national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “The Petty family, including Richard Petty Motorsports and Petty’s Garage, are valued supporters of our organization and the entire veteran community. We are grateful to have them as a part of the Paralyzed Veterans family.”

Richard Petty will also be in attendance at this year’s Kissimmee Auto Auction; where the car will auctioned on January 14, 2017. Whoever the new owner is of this one-of-a-kind Petty’s Garage built Mustang ends up being, they’ll be happy to know there’s an 850 HP Whipple supercharged Coyote under the hood that’s backed by a Barton Industries short-throw shifter, too.
