Rendering: 2015 Shelby GT500 Concept Is Futuristic Fast

For Mustang fans and Ford die-hards,the reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang can’t come soon enough. With Mustang fans and the automotive press reaching a near fever pitch in anticipation of this next-gen muscle car, leaks, rumors, and common sense have indicated that the next Mustang will look much more modern and sleeker. An endless parade of renderings have speculated what the 2015 Mustang will look like, although the actual design still remains a highly guarded Ford secret.

We’ve seen countless renderings labeled Mustang, but what about variants like the Shelby GT500? Ford will likely go to great lengths to differentiate the high-end Shelby from the more pedestrian Mustang models. John McBride of Midnite Octane drew up this sleek rendering of the 2015 Shelby GT500 and posted it on the Mustang6g forums. We think he hit the proverbial nail on the head.

As has been recounted numerous times on these virtual pages, analysts and journalists expect the next Mustang to be styled very much like the Ford Evos Concept from 2011. Smoother, sleeker, and infinitely more modern in appearance than the current retro-stylized Mustang, the 2015 Mustang is expected to go after youth buyers worldwide who prefer a more “fluid” look to their cars.

The Shelby GT500 on the other hand, isn’t going to aim for younger buyers, most of whom can only dream of spending $55,000-plus on a car. Even so, it will still have that smooth, sleek shape, and as McBride’s rendering shows, it translate rather well into a bold supercharged muscle car. Little details, like the powerdome hood, gaping front fascia, and fastback bodystyle, all scream classic Mustang without going overboard on the retro.

We think McBride’s rendering hits just the right notes for a 2015 Shelby GT500 time will tell if he’s correct or even just close. What do you think of his design?
