Even though the last Mustang refresh was on the 2012 model year, the underlying platform is fast approaching a decade old. Considering that the main competition, the Camaro and Challenger, are riding on significantly newer platforms, the mighty Mustang is certainly holding its own. But 2014 is the 50^th anniversary of the Mustang, and that is still three years away. Can we go another three years on the same ol’ Mustang?

According to Mustangs Daily, Ford doesn’t seem to think so. They are planning to unveil a refreshed Mustang model for 2013, with an all-new Mustang hitting dealerships for the 2015 model year.

A refreshed Mustang already? Seems too soon, but remember, Ford gave the Mustang a makeover before dropping in the new 5.0 V8 engine (which happened just last year.) While many of us expected the 50^th anniversary of the Mustang to land in 2013 as a 2014 model, the new reports say that Ford is putting off the next-generation Mustang until 2015 as a 2014 model, hitting showrooms exactly 50 years after the Mustang first debuted.

That means we have three more years of the same Mustang…unless Ford gives us something a little fresher come next spring. The report also says that the 2013 model Mustang will get an exterior refresh, leaving just two model years (2013 and 2014) before the all-new Mustang arrives on dealer showrooms. Sounds awfully crowded, but if you ask us, there’s no such thing as too many new Mustangs.
