Earlier this year, Petty’s Garage teased a new production vehicle dubbed the 2018 Bootlegger Edition Mustang. This new blacked-out pony was said to produce up to 800 horsepower, and the original prototype was unveiled and scheduled for sale during the Scottsdale Auction Week in Arizona.

This particular vehicle is a one-of-one 2017 prototype built to prove out the Bootlegger series. Only 43 (Get it? The King’s race car number.) such examples will be built as 2018 models. This prototype features Edelbrock’s 2650 supercharger which boosts the stock Mustang GT’s output to the aforementioned 800 ponies. To help keep the vehicle under control and firmly planted, the car comes standard with big Wilwood brakes, unique Niche wheels, and Continental Extreme ContactSport tires.

• Custom Niche wheels
• Continental Extreme ContactSport tires

The Bootlegger also features a custom interior that frames a Barton short-throw shifter. Each of the 2018 models sold also include a unique accessory that completes the Bootlegger theme — a bottle of Richard Petty’s Bourbon Whiskey 43. You’ll probably want to keep that out of the interior and smuggle it in the trunk if you are out for a drive, however.
After the reveal this week, the 2017 Bootlegger prototype hit the auction block with a portion of the proceeds destined for the Petty Family Foundation Charity. Richard Petty’s daughter started this non-profit, which focuses on positive long-term impact in support of many veterans and children organizations around the country.
While Petty’s Garage has yet to announce when the 2018 Bootlegger edition be available, you can stay tuned to its official website here for more updates.
