Many race car drivers have long and storied careers racked with many successes (and likely more than a few spectacular failures.) Yet there is always that one season, that one race, that one moment that can define an entire career. For famed Ford driver Parnelli Jones, his defining moment was the day he slipped behind the wheel of the BOSS 302 Mustang during the 1970 racing season, and taking checkered flag after checkered flag. Perhaps more than any other individual, Parnelli Jones etched the BOSS 302 name into the annals of muscle car lore.
So it is only natural that he would be in line for an all new 2012 BOSS 302 Mustang of his own. Jones recently took delivery of his new BOSS, reports Mustangs Daily. And the former race car driver has no intention of babying his new race car.
During the 1970 racing season, Parnelli Jones and teammate George Follmer raced for Bud Moore’s BOSS 302 Mustang team. The two ended up placing in either first or second place in almost all of the races, bringing home victory for the Blue Oval just before Ford cancelled all its racing efforts. Forty years later, and Parnelli Jones is once again behind the wheel of a BOSS 302 Mustang.
He opted for a black-and-red Laguna Seca Edition decked out in all the racing gear…because he plans to race it, of course. Did you expect any less from a racing legend? Jones had a lot of input on the new BOSS 302 during its development, and we expect that his input helped resurrect this legend in the right way.
