The new S550 Ford Mustang is already a popular specimen over in the Land Down Under, and it hasn’t even made its official launch overseas. Over 2,000 orders have been placed for the 2015 Ford Mustang with deposits already piling in. Its Australian debut is set for sometime later this year.

Convertibles and coupes will be available in both the almighty, naturally aspirated V8 as well as the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost. Thanks to PerformanceDrive, we know that 42 percent have decided to go for the GT version complete with an automatic transmission.

“Just like in America, we are seeing great early demand for the V8 GT models. But, we think the EcoBoost model will be a bigger seller longer term and help sustain sales longer than most performance cars as people see its great combination of performance and fuel economy,” says Graeme Whickman, president and CEO for Ford Australia.

The Performance Pack option will be offered as well, allowing for better handling with a K-brace, chassis tuning, and larger rear way bar along with hardcore front springs.

Left-hand drive versions of the S550 Mustang have been tested by Ford engineers in Victoria (in Geelong) at the Lara proving ground. This testing is part of a $300 million investment in research and development in regards to Ford products in Australia.

Prices start at $44,990 for a manual 2.3L EcoBoost and goes up to $63,990 for the convertible complete with automatic transmission.

We can’t wait to see how popular the new Ford Mustang becomes in Australia, and it certainly looks like it is off to a great start.
