Back about five years ago, the first unfiltered images of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift started leaking out. And despite a cadre of cool (or not) cars, the one vehicle everybody kept talking about was the ‘67 Mustang with a turbocharged Nissan engine under the hood. Whether you loved it or hated it, it certainly was a creative engine swap, inspiring more than its fair share of imitators.
One such car was the JGY Cutoms RB25DET-powered ‘93 Fox-body Mustang. We had never seen this car before, and it is worth taking a gander at.
Import cars from Japan have increasingly become the source of many a hot rod or engine swap. LS1 engines and Ford 302’s are popular swaps into the Nissan 240sx, though the holy grail of Nissan performance cars is the Skyline. The RB25DET motor is an inline-six with a turbocharger that makes pretty impressive numbers stock, and even more with modifications.
The JGY Customs Mustang started out as a 4-banger, but an engine swap, paint job, and interior upgrade later have made it into something unique. We think it is a pretty cool swap, though for all the time and effort that goes into the swap you could probably have a much beefier 5.0 engine under the hood. But to each their own, right?
