There are plenty of rumors, renderings, and speculations regarding the 2015 Mustang, and spy shots certainly seem to indicate that internet sleuths are on the right track. Regardless of the details though, the next-gen Mustang is a massive deal for Ford, and the Dearborn-based automaker is said to be using this high-profile car as a launchpad for a wave of high-tech gadgets.
That’s the exclusive insider report from Torque News, which was unable to get specifics on just what kind of cool tech we should expect. But based on our own prior experiences, we might have a few ideas what Ford is up to.
The report interviews and unnamed member of the Mustang development team, who says that despite the claims of some skeptics, the renderings showing an Evos-inspired front end is right on. This isn’t exactly surprising given the plethora of spy shots we’ve seen as of late. Also, designing a new car takes years and years, and needs to mesh with the styling of the rest of the lineup. Like it or not, the next Mustang is going to look a lot like the Evos, but that isn’t a bad thing if you ask us.
So what about the high-tech stuff? Well the insider didn’t say, but Ford recently displayed a new concept car in Europe. Based on the Europe-only S-Max van, this concept featured a self-parking system, lane departure warning, and a system that can even monitor the health of the driver, sending reports to your doctor (should you opt-in).
The S-Max also features a back-up camera, which will become standard on all new vehicles in 2015, and a pedestrian-safety system that automatically applies the brakes at low speeds. We also expect the new Mustang to have a plethora of airbags, backup sensors, and a suite of navigation and performance options like a customizable gauge cluster and on-board performance monitoring gadgets.
As if we needed another reason to get excited for the next Mustang.
