The VMP Heavy Duty Tensioner is the solution for slipping and broken belts. When your stock tensioner cannot act quickly enough, the factory belt can slip, jump, and snap. As GT500s get older, factory tensioners loose consistency in their stiffness and their ability to control the belt.
VMP developed the heavy duty tensioner as the solution for slipping, jumping, and ultimately broken belts at higher boost levels (15psi+). If you have noticed excessive dust, chunking, or lost ribs, you are experiencing the symptoms of an inadequate tensioner. The more boost you run, the more stress there is on the belt, leading the belt to stretch. During shifts and burnouts the tensioner has to work double-duty; keeping both tractive effort on the supercharger pulley and dealing with the resultant oscillations and yo-yo effect of the belt. When the tensioner is not strong enough to do its job the belt goes slack momentarily; landing back on the pulley, it tends to chunk and eventually tear ribs off. The VMP HD Tensioner solves this problem—With its higher spring rate, it can handle the most demanding belt loads.
