New 2015 Mustang Details Emerge, “Looks Great”

The car blogging universe, having sunk their teeth in the 2014 Corvette C7 and spit out nearly every opinion possible on that car, has moved on to anticipating the next-great-unveiling, the 2015 Ford Mustang. We’ve gone back and forth dozens of times on what the Mustang will or won’t feature, what, if any EcoBoost engines it will have, and whether or not it is too “European” looking.

The latest news from Edmunds, which talked to several people close with Ford who have reportedly seen scale models of the new Mustang, is that the 2015 model “Looks great” and that “You will know it’s a Mustang.” Those are encouraging words to the Mustang faithful everywhere.

Those are the words of Jack Telnack, the former global design boss at Ford, who has seen a scale model of the 2015 Mustang. He wouldn’t go into detail, as automakers are notoriously ruthless when it comes to squashing design leaks. Still, it is reassuring to hear that Ford hasn’t gone overboard with the Evos Concept styling that we originally feared would be the next Mustang.

Speaking with other designers, Edmunds learned that Ford plans to put even more emphasis on special editions of the Mustang with the next generation of the car. The latest rumors suggest that the Shelby GT350 will replace the GT500, and the Mustang Mach 1 will also be making a return. With so many classic Mustang models to choose, the options for special edition Mustangs are deep indeed.

Ford hasn’t put a reveal date on the 2015 Mustang yet, though April 17th, the date of the original debut, is the same date as the 2014 New York Auto Show. Have the stars aligned for the Mustang reveal? April seems a little late, but the 2014 model could get prolonged production if Ford’s looking to make that sort of debut for the 2015. We hope to see a real car before then, and perhaps the next generation Mustang go on sale on that faithful date. Only time will tell.
