During qualifying for this weekends Round 7 of the Arabian Drag Racing League at the Qatar Racing Club in Doo, Qatar, the Team Never Scared Racing twin turbocharged Mustang, formerly campaigned by nitrous runner Mike Castellana in the United States, cranked off an elapsed time of 3.829 seconds, marking the quickest eighth mile lap in history for a turbocharged doorslammer. The run was coupled with a personal best speed of 201.01 miles per hour for controversial driver Moe Atat. An earlier 3.93 set the stage for what would later be a record-setting pass.
“After it went (3) .93 in the second session and pedalled it at 60 feet, I expected it to run an .80 something,” noted team tuner Shane Tecklenburg of the USA. “But I could not have imagined that it would put up that low of a number, that was unreal. I am so happy for us, Greg Johnson and Chad Morgan have worked hard to try and get this chassis sorted out and it finally appears to be paying off.”
Prior to Round 7, Team Never Scared had won the last three rounds of the series in the Top Sportsman division despite struggling to get a handle on the QRC racing surface. A case of too much grip was causing the tires on the powerful Mustang to oscillate at violently at some 30 cycles per second at the 60′ mark. Crew Chief Greg Johnson and Car Chief Chad Morgan formulated a solution for adjustments that paid off with the big run.
