Mustang6g Leaks What Could Be Official 2015 Mustang Weights

Last week the story broke about the weight of the 2015 Mustang. One report indicated that the Mustang would gain as much as 200-300 pounds over the outgoing 2014 model. This was in stark contrast to what we had hoped would be a lighter 2014 model. We found out a few days later that those numbers were merely estimated by the company putting them out.

This week the guys over at Mustang6g sent us some interesting information that seems to confirm that the 2015 Mustang will gain a small amount of weight. Overall it looks as though the 2015 Mustang V6 will gain 25 pounds weighing 3,526 pounds with a manual transmission. The GT will gain 100 pounds tipping the scales at 3,704 pounds. Manual equipped EcoBoost models will weigh 3,517 pounds. That’s not a terrible tradeoff given the IRS suspension, and the bevy of technology Ford is packing into this car. While we’d like to see the weight at least remain the same as the 2014, and had hoped for a lighter car since the 2015 F-150 is reported to be so much lighter, this news isn’t as bad as earlier rumors.

According to Mustang6g these numbers come from a “dealer manual”, so we can only assume that they’re either coming from sales materials, training materials, or information given to Ford service departments ahead of the car’s release.

On the performance front Ford officials have said that one of their goals for the 2015 GT was that this car equipped with the track pack option would be able to surpass the performance of the ’12-’13 BOSS 302 on the road course. That’s a lofty goal. However, we have reason to believe that the 2014 GT will be more powerful given the revisions made to the engine’s intake and cylinder heads. The independent rear suspension should also help the car achieve that level of performance on the track.

Final horsepower numbers still aren’t out. We would wager that Ford is either still trying finalize a computer calibration, or waiting on SAE verification of engine output so that they can release those numbers officially. No word yet either on when we’ll get to spend time with a 2015 Mustang, but we’re hoping it’s very soon.
