You would think that a school buss would be easy to see, being as large as they are and, well yellow, but one woman on Long Island, New York still managed to crash into the back of one with her late-model Mustang on Tuesday. As we found out from Long Island’s FiOS1 news station, the car is a total loss, but the crash could have been much worse.

By looking at the pictures you would think that the driver of the Mustang couldn’t have survived. After all, the car struck the back of the parked school bus so hard that it lodged itself almost completely under the bus’ back end. Fortunately, however, the 68-year-old driver did survive somehow and is currently in critical condition at an area hospital.

As for the Mustang, it is as good as scrap metal at this point. From the Newsday video above, we learned that the car was a convertible even prior to its decapitation. Not dealing with a collapsing metal roof may have been the reason the elderly driver survived.

Police are still investigating the crash and have not yet released the Mustang driver’s name. There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash, just a driver who sustained minor injuries.

This has not been a good week for Mustangs, unfortunately. The same day this crash occurred on Long Island, a young guy crashed his brand new Mustang GT off the third story of a parking garage in Switzerland. Coincidence, yes, but we hope the Mustang crash trend ends here.
