Modeste, with his Neal Chance Racing Converters onboard his torque-happy Big Block Ford-powered ride, blasted off a 4.17 at just shy of 180 MPH and coasted through the International Raceway quarter mile timers with a slowing 6.66 at only 161 MPH last week. Conveniently giving us an excellent point of reference, Roger Holder laid down a 6.19 at 240 mph at the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas On Thursday, on a larger 315 radial.
Holder’s 1/8th mile time was almost identical to Mike’s, both cars laying down a 4.17, although Holder’s turbo entry did run 189 mph to 660-feet. It still stands to reason that the blown ‘Stang would run a solid back half, possibly in the low 6.30 range at 220+ mph if he held it out the back door. Of course that’s all speculation on our part, but with a bit of a renewed interest in small-tire quarter mile racing, we may start seeing more passes through the 1320, especially in off-season testing.
Marty Chance of Neal Chance Racing Converters said of Mike’s converter, “Mustang Mike runs the billet aluminum bolt together NXS with the BB option. This is one of our lightweight billet converters.” Those who follow Modeste know he’s already ranked in the Top 10 Outlaw 275 cars in the country, having laid down a 4.30 in competition at Mooresville Dragway just a few weeks ago. However, it would appear Neal Chance has found something in the converter that Mike’s Mustang really likes, picking up over a tenth from his previous best effort and placing him hot on the heels of current 275 king David “Little Evil” Pearson’s blown small block Mustang.
Congrats to Mustang Mike and Neal Chance Racing Converters. It’s nothing short of amazing to see ET’s most never thought would be possible on a drag radial, much less a 275!
