Mustang Girl Monday: Team Mustang Girls Profiles Our Amie Williams

It’s Mustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. This week we we would like to share a little bit more about someone you should all recognize, StangTV’s Amie Williams.
Amie acquired her love for fine machinery when she was a little kid thanks to her dad. As a pilot and professional skydiver, he had airplanes to tinker around on, and she was there to lend a hand if she could. He also had a fondness for old cars, mostly Chevys, and at one point he had an old Studebaker that he would drive around the airport. Amie’s father passed away when she was 12, but her appreciation continued. With only a part-time job and school full time, she couldn’t exactly afford anything spectacular for her first car, plus, her mom believed that foreign cars lasted longer and that anything with four-cylinders would do just fine. “I tried my best to like that ’93 Eclipse that left me stranded everywhere. Mustang always grabbed my attention, but I never thought they were attainable”.
After a few cars later and marrying her husband, Kelly, they decided it was time for Amie to get the car she really wanted. She grabbed an Auto Trader and went straight to the Ford section. Still back in ’05, the New Edges were everywhere so she found a little manual ’01 V6 for just over $6,000. After a test drive with that aftermarket exhaust, she was hooked. “It was faster than anything I’ve ever owned, and the feeling of love was instant, a feeling I’ve never had before with any car”.

After having the Mustang a while, Amie was promoted at work with a longer commute, and the Stang wasn’t exactly holding up its end of the deal anymore. After trading in the Mustang for a ’07 Focus, she actually cried as the salesmen did a quick burnout to take it back to their lot. Although Amie liked the Focus, she didn’t love it. One day after work, Kelly surprised her with a Sonic Blue ’04 Mustang. Also a V6, they added a cold air intake, larger throttle body, Flowmaster exhaust, Eibach Pro-kit springs, 18-inch American Racing Rebel wheels and a few other goodies.
During that time, Amie joined different automotive websites and forums, and also started making friends in the Mustang world. She met one of her very best friends on a Mustang forum, Mustang Boards. One forum she frequented was MustangEvolution.com and she started a new hobby on the side of writing for their blog. “It turned out that I was actually pretty good at it, and I loved the feedback that came along with it”.
From there, Amie was sought out by AmericanMuscle.com and was asked to write for their blog also. After writing for AM for a few months, she was approached by StangTV to become a contributor on their website. How could she turn that down? Amie started to realize that she could turn something that she loved doing into a career. She dropped a job she hated and started writing about Mustangs full time.

When October/November came around it was mostly about the cars that attended the SEMA show. She knew that one day that she needed to make it to the biggest automotive aftermarket trade show. Then Amie met Evan Smith, then the editor of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine. After reading some of her work, she soon became a freelance contributor. Not long after that, she moved her family to Tampa after getting a job as an Online Associate Editor. After five years and an unfortunate accident with the ’04 SB, she bought a two-tone ’05 Mustang GT with Shelby Razor wheels – her first V8. They added TMI upholstery, Raxiom GEN5 tails and a few other things. She added a cold air intake and a pink pinstripe to separate my silver and gray two-tone paint job and for her mom who was fighting her second round of breast cancer.
After an awesome year, the company changed its business plan and Tampa was no longer on the map for them. Timing was everything, because that same week she found out that her mom had just been diagnosed with her second round of breast cancer, and Amie felt that was a sign that she needed to help and spend more time with her. After a few months of driving back and forth 3 hours one way every weekend, they moved back home so Amie could be closer. Amie went back home to StangTV and started writing for a few other sites through Power Automedia while continuing to do print magazine work every month as well.

“I’ve owned 3 Mustangs over the years and made myself a career that revolves around them. It wasn’t long after the move that my mom passed away. She was an incredible woman, and soon I hope to make my car more into a rolling tribute to her and her valiant fight against cancer”.
