It’s Mustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. Take a pause from the cyber shopping and meet Kristin MacBride, aka Stang Girl, and her ’04 Mustang that’s driven by a promise.
Kristin didn’t really get into cars until she turned 15 but speed was always in her blood. When she was a little girl her parents would take her to the local drag strip. Her dad raced his 10 second pony, a Ford Pinto and his “corvette killer” a 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. Kristin’s first car was a graduation present, a 2001 Performance Red Ford Mustang GT. When her dad found out she wanted to modify the car, he made a promise to help her with the work and show the mustang. After a few modifications Kristin decided to enter in her first car show, but her dad was not able to join her. The disease of MS had already taken his ability to walk and he was now in a wheel chair. “My dad sat in his wheel chair in front of the dining room window and all I could do was wave to him as I left for the show, a heart breaking moment for both of us”. Kristin didn’t place at the show but she put her best foot forward at kick starting her dream of building and showing vehicles, thanks to her dad’s encouragement.
Unfortunately she ran into some dishonest people when she tried to continue the modifications without her father’s guidance. She eventually got so frustrated she traded the car in at the same dealership they had originally bought it from. That day she picked up a new car, a 2004 Sonic Blue Metallic Pearl Mustang V6 Coupe. In July 2004 the brand new, sparkling Stang was delivered to her house and immediately named Trouble. After taking pictures of her new car Kristin ran in and showed them to her father. At this point he was completely bed ridden with a feeding tube and slowly losing his ability to speak as the disease progressed. “At his bedside I promised my father I would not give up on this Mustang and I would finish it no matter what. I was determined to work through anything that was thrown at myself and Trouble”.
