Mustang Girl Monday: Jackie Dahlen and Her Mustang Collection

It’sMustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. This week we would like to share Jackie Dahlen’s passion for Mustangs.

The first time Mustangs really appeared on Jackie’s radar was in 2004. She was the Regional Coordinator for the Pennsylvania High School Mock Trial competition. That year the legal issue involved the theft and unauthorized use of a 1967 Mustang Shelby GT 500 by a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome. Shortly after that in April 2005, Jackie walked into Matthews Paoli Ford and bought a leftover 2004 Black GT that was just calling out to her to take him home and love him!  A couple of years later she decided to have yellow stripes painted on it by Dan Nolan at the Mustang Barn who had just finished restoring her new 1965 Poppy Red Mustang. Because of her color, her name is Miss Poppy.

She was always very pretty to look at, but she needed a lot of work. She isn’t anything fancy, she’s just a 200 in-line six cylinder coupe.  I don’t really know much about her history since there are no Martí reports available for 1965 Mustangs. So I think of her basically as an orphan that I have adopted and I would not trade her for anything in the world.  She is proudly #131 in the Red Mustang Registry”.

After the 04 GT had yellow stripes painted on it, Jackie took it to the race track with some other Valley Forge Mustang Club members to see what it would do as purely a stock car.  That was probably a mistake because now 8 years later, it has ea litany of bolt-on modifications, including the most recent mod a Zex nitrous kit.  The car has gone from being a 16-second car to a 12.5second best time ET.  It has also participated in 2 Burnout Contest at Carlisle going the full 3 minutes and blowing out both tires!  Mark Pellechio in the club dubbed it Yellow Stripes which was eventually shortened to just Stripes.  In 2014, Stripes was featured in the Female Invitational Display at Carlisle.

During all this time, Jackie’s daily driver had been a red Mercedes. She loved the car but felt kind of silly getting out of it wearing her Mustang T-shirts.  Plus, when she passed a Mustang on the road, she couldn’t honk or wave because they wouldn’t know that she also had Mustangs.

So Jackie traded in the Mercedes and got a 2007 Black Mustang V6.  Once again she added her own personal touch and had Dan Nolan apply red vinyl striping.  She also bought side window louvers and had them airbrushed. Friend, Scott Lay came up with the perfect name for her ’07 daily driver: Stripes Junior, which was then shortened to just Junior. You see, Stripes is a V8, Junior is a V-6; Stripes is older, Junior is younger; stripes is a manual transmission, Junior is automatic; and finally, Stripes has stripes all the way from the hood to the trunk, Junior only has stripes on the hood. Junior proudly participated with 900 other Mustangs in the Guinness World Record attempt at Charlotte last year”.

For three years Jackie planned on purchasing a 50th anniversary Mustang when it came out. Immediately after attending the 50th anniversary celebration in Charlotte, she went over to see Jeff Greenly at Yocum Ford and placed her order for a 2015 Ecoboost with navigation, performance package, and a 50th anniversary appearance package.

It was a long wait but on December 2, 2014, she picked up my new black Stang in the pouring rain!  After a few weeks, she had Dan Nolan paint green stripes on it. As this was her third Mustang with stripes, his name is officially Stripes III or triple, or Tripp, for short.  Tripp took second place in his class (2015 4-6 cyl.) at Carlisle.

“I am thrilled to finally be an All-Mustang Family and to enjoy the love and camaraderie of the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.  Mustang peeps are the best peeps around! Oh, and I think I forgot to mention, this Mustang chick is 68 years old!”
