It’s Mustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. We caught up with Gina Durr and her 2013 Mustang GT after the Shelbyfest All Mustang Rally in Jefferson City, MO.

Gina’s love of Mustangs came from her sister, who as long as Gina can remember loved them and always pointed them out anytime she would see one. Just like most little girls, Gina wanted to be like her big sister so she started pointing out all Mustangs on the road too, thinking one day she would have one. “I guess we rubbed off on our mom because in 1984 she went into the local Ford dealership and fell in love with the 4 speed blue Mustang on the showroom floor. Needless to say, she drove it home. It wasn’t a fast Mustang but it was a Mustang and I loved that it was ours”. When Gina turned 15 1/2, she learned how to drive in that car and loved that it was a manual, once she got used to it of course.

Gina’s love of Mustangs continued to grow. Her favorites were the older 66-68 coupes. “I would practically drool every time I saw one….still do really. One day, I will own one…candy apple red with white leather interior”.

Gina’s second Mustang, which was technically her husbands, was bright red with black interior. He always loved American Muscle cars but his love of Mustangs really came from Gina’s love of them. Again, this one wasn’t a 5.0 but it was a Mustang and they loved it! They were very young and couldn’t afford the insurance on a 5.0 let alone the car payment.

Gina’s husband is in the military so they took the car to Germany. “Getting on that autobahn for the first time and pushing that Mustang to see what she could do while knowing we weren’t going to get pulled over for speeding was pure excitement. That was a moment we wished it was a 5.0”. The sad day came when they made the choice to sell her because they decided to start a family and wanted something a little bigger.

“I did the whole “mom car / SUV thing for many years but knew one day I would go back to my Mustangs”. Finally, two years ago Gina’s dream of being a Mustang owner again came true when she purchased her 2013 GT Premium with the pony package in Grabber Blue. She immediately started modifying the car to her liking. The first things she did was change the spoiler, and add the side scoops and Roush axle back exhaust . Gina loves that deeper, meaner sound of a good exhaust. “It is perhaps one of my favorite sounds. Yes, I’m that girl who rolls down the window just to hear my own exhaust, especially when going under a bridge where the roar echoes”. Then Gina started dressing up under the hood and installed a BBK cold air induction and Bama tuner. That really released the power behind her and added about 35 horses to the already 420. Gina would love nothing more than to get her on a track to see what she can do, maybe even this summer.

“After crunching numbers all day as an accountant, there is nothing more satisfying or relaxing than a drive in the Mustang. Especially on a nice day with the windows rolled down and stereo turned up, but not so loud that it overpowers the exhaust. It’s an instant stress reliever”.

Gina loves showing her off and being with fellow Mustang enthusiasts. Her town, Jefferson City, MO, hosted the Shelbyfest All Mustang Rally this past weekend. It is an amazing experience for all Mustang owners. The country cruise had a great turn out with 66 Mustangs and the show on Saturday was Mustang heaven. “I was super stoked to find out that Jefferson City is now the home of Shelbyfest”.
