It’s Mustang Girl Monday brought to you by Team Mustang Girls. This week we would like to introduce Danielle Long. Danielle’s Mustang story started when her brother got his first Mustang at the age of 16. They were both into cars (their dad used to race before they were born), but her brother went the Ford route while their dad attempted to push Mopar. “My brother took me for rides driving like a dummy in his ’86, and I kinda grew to love them after that!”

Danielle started racing at the track when she was 17 after getting a manual trans 2001 F150 Sport. Unfortunately she was hit head on in the rain by a young kid and the truck was totaled. She looked around for a new car and found a yellow 1994 GT for sale. “The color wasn’t something I’d normally choose, but it was my chance to get into a Mustang”. She scrounged up the money, but upon buying it, there was a loud clunking noise that sounded like it was coming from the transmission. It was discussed between Danielle and the seller, instead of waiting for a diagnosis, she said she would figure it out.

It just so happened that a friend introduced her to his friend, Jake, who was the transmission specialist for Wayne Akers Ford. She took Jake for a ride to get an opinion from him… fast forward almost a year and Jake and Danielle were dating, he left Wayne Akers to start his own shop. and in comes a customer’s black 1997 Cobra. “Every time I stopped by and saw it, I’d start drooling…I had a thing for black cars”. The car had a carbon fiber ’00 Cobra R hood, Cobra R front bumper, SLP exhaust and a Paxton Novi2000. The paint wasn’t well taken care of, so she always said “Man, if I owned that car…!” Well, Jake came home one day and said that Larry -the owner, wanted to sell the Cobra for a deal that couldn’t be refused! Jake ended up buying the Cobra up front, and Danielle paid him back in full by selling the ’94 GT and the blower off the Cobra. “That was the beginning of my long, drawn out journey of a build!”

The car now has a custom turbo kit that Danielle and her husband, you guessed it, Jake built. It’s a 61mm Precision Turbo with a complete fuel system, 80 lbs injectors, with Walbro 255 in-line and in-tank fuel pumps feeding the engine E85. They swapped the car to a built 4R70W transmission with a manual valve body that Jake had put together since the stock T45 blew from the power and torque increase. Out back the car has a built rearend with a Shelby diff, carbon clutches and Moser 31 spline axles, UPR front K-member with coil-overs, rear upper and lower adjustable control arms with hyme joints, and a Tig Vision Fabrication Street Anti-Roll Bar.

The car made 460 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque through the stock T45 on 10psi and on the stock motor. So far Danielle’s best pass has been an 11.37 at 116 mph. She currently has a completely built and assembled engine at the shop ready to go in, but they are in the process of building a custom sheet metal intake to run so they can see proper gains. Once the intake is installed and tested, in goes the new engine, bigger turbo, and hopes for some mid 9’s at the track!
