Mustang Alley At Somernites Cruise Attracts More Than 800 Fords

For more than a decade now, the Somernites Cruise has been regarded as the “The Official Car Cruise Capital of Kentucky,” and for good reason. More than 800 Mustangs and Fords attended last year’s “Mustang Alley” cruise back in August – with even more vehicles expected to attend this year’s event on August 25th through the 26th.

“Somernites Cruise is a huge monthly gathering of customs, classics and muscle cars in Somerset, Kentucky,” Mark Hansford of Somernites Cruise told us. “We set new records for the Mustang Alley Showcase in August of 2016. The 11th annual event welcomed more than 800 Fords and Mustangs of all years – from mild to wild. Car owners are invited to park as a group in the Mustang Corral, with many cruising in as a group or with fellow car club members,”

Many Mustangs of all generations could be found on the grounds of the Somerset, Kentucky, event. Images provided by Mark Hansford, Jason Denney, Terry and Sandy Spears.

With nearly one thousand Fords and Mustangs attending the event, Mark was only able to share merely a fraction of the vehicles he saw during the event. From Mustangs as early as ’65 classics to the latest Mustang GT and Shelby GT350 Mustangs, surely this car show and cruise was a massive playground for Blue Oval folks.

As Mark detailed for us, The day began with a fun run to a nearby drag strip for some quarter mile blasts. “Friendly challenges among Mustang owners, and even between manufacturers, highlighted the event,” Mark said.

"Cash awards were handed out for Best Reaction Time, Highest MPH and Low Elapsed Time," Mark told us.

Beginning around noon, Mark said the party started with the “Show & Shine” event in old downtown Somerset; which saw an incredible non-stop stampede of Mustangs rolling through the entrance gates.

“Ford Performance, the Shelby Store On Wheels and the National Mustang Museum were among the special displays on hand. Car owners even had the chance to win the event’s “Ultimate Door Prize” for the day – a Mustang GT!”

Mark detailed that more than 1,400 vehicles attended the show as a whole; with a record of more than 800 of those vehicles being Mustangs and some Fords. “Late in the afternoon, huge numbers of hotrods and spectators gathered along the main drag; a six-lane boulevard that runs through the heart of town, to see all the horsepower in action,” Mark entailed. Our “Cruising The Strip At Somernites” has become a must-do tradition, and a great way to cap off a fun weekend,” Mark concluded.
