Late last summer, the first Ford Mustangs built specifically for the European market arrived in the U.K., and there was much rejoicing within the English Isles. Ford went to great lengths to ensure that the new Mustang was just as appealing to Americans as it would be to Europeans, but when it comes to the endlessly-modifiable Mustang, there’s always going to be room for improvement.
Motorward reports that U.K. exhaust specialists Milltek Sport have given the new Mustang a warm British welcome, tuning both the engine and suspension to better appeal to the driving tastes and sensibilities of the queue-loving English.
Milltek is an exhaust specialist first and foremost, and to that end they’ve created a custom system using a stainless steel cat-back exhaust and X-Pipe quad outlet with GT-90 trims paired with a quad-outlet rear valance from Roush. With the engine fed by a Roush cold air intake system, the exhaust and intake combo add 21 ponies to the 5.0 engine’s bottom line for a crankshaft horsepower rating of 456.
From the engine we move onto suspension upgrades, with Milltek turning to KW Automotive for a full set of KW Variant 3 coilovers. The stock wheels are replaced by 20-inch HRE FF15 alloy wheels packaged in Toyo R888 high performance tires. Finally, a pair of Le Mans-style racing stripes help drive home the point that this isn’t just your typical pony car.
There are plenty of Brits who have waited a long time to get their hands on a brand new Ford Mustang, and now that the steed has gone global, there’s an opportunity for parts makers in the U.K. and elsewhere to add more Mustang parts to their portfolios. It will be interesting to see what different parts of the world develop for the one and only Mustang.
