Anyone who’s ever followed the history of Ford performance knows Carroll Shelby’s story. It’s one of an underdog from Texas who stood up to the likes of Enzo Ferrari with grace. The caliber of car that was introduced to America’s road racing efforts through the GT40 was one that the Italian automaker just couldn’t match.
Because the story of Carroll Shelby and his sweep even over the Mustang nameplate has become so engrained in the minds of nearly every race car enthusiast, Shelby himself has become a homegrown icon. Nobody knows this better than Randy Richards, president of the Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club, “Carroll Shelby changed the course of history and touched millions of lives through his racing, his companies and his charity,” says Richards.
The LASAAC will be honoring Shelby’s life and career with their first-annual, Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show. This event will be happening on May 11th of this year at the Carroll Shelby Foundation headquarters in Gardena, California, located at 19021 South Figueroa Street. Gates will open at 10:00 AM. This event will commemorates the historic racing driver and car builder just one year after his passing.
There’s no charge for admission, but the LASAAC’s new venue will continue in Shelby’s spirit of charity, by giving you the chance to get a free decal with your donation of $10 to the foundation. Shelby car owners who want to bring their rides to the event can find a registration form on the Shelby Foundation’s website, and for your car’s entrance they ask simply for a $20 donation.
This year’s first-annual Shelby tribute is one that’s sure to keep the spirit of the Shelby American founder alive, and if you want to celebrate our nation’s most famous road racer while giving back to the motoring community, then this year’s car show and tribute is one that you just can not miss!
