We’ve been paying attention to the forums over at Mustang6G for a long time now; prior to the reveal of the new S550 chassis there was plenty of information leaking out, and from what we can gather there are a few Ford insiders dropping hints from time to time.
So when we found this thread with a screen capture of Ford’s 2015 Body Code Chart (what Flat Rock Assembly Plant uses to know which car to build), we were immediately drawn in and trying to decipher its meaning. As Ford Motor Company has already shown the car off to the press at the Worldwide Reveal, but not to the general public at this time, we believe there are still a number of tricks hidden in the ol’ grab bag.
The car will make its public debut in just a few short weeks at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and based on the information presented at left it appears that the Shelby will return for the 2015 model year in both coupe and convertible form.
The current thinking says that the Shelby will launch as a GT350 in the 2016 model year, designed as a lightweight track car to be positioned against Chevrolet’s Camaro 1LE model, and this screenshot of the body code chart seems to confirm that information.
As we recently reported, a savvy SVTPerformance.com forum user found a spot in Ford’s dealer ordering system for promotional materials to select the GT350 – and that’s confirmation enough for us.
Unfortunately we still have not been able to confirm any technical information on what the GT350 will contain in terms of performance modifications, but if the past is any indication of the future, it’ll be one heck of a machine.
