“…Custom-built race car, not street legal, racing interior with racing gauges, heavily modified with roll cage and race suspension. Also featured in TV commercial. Asking $1,600 or best offer.”
Are you reaching for your wallet after reading that ad for a heavily modified 1996 Mustang GT?
If so, you might want to take a second look before you start pulling out the Ben Franklins. This SN95 is, well, something else for sure. Its Craigslist post says it features a “custom race body that is literally one of a kind,” and we can’t argue that point. And, frankly, thank goodness. We are not sure the world could handle two of these bad boys!
Though the listing says it looks like the new Mustangs, we might have to squint to see those similarities. There is truth in advertising, however, as the post says the racing parts are worth more than the car. Add up the fuel cell, race seat, a switch panel, some gauges, that has got to be a few hundred dollars of swap meet gold. Throw in the rearend and transmission and you might even break even.
The one shining light of the car is the fact that it was featured in a television commercial overseas. The deodorant commercial is shot at a drag strip and the driver’s armpits catch on fire (insert joke here), but do not worry, the owner insists the car was not actually on fire. You have got to love that TV magic…
