High Performance Ignition Coil Options From Pertronix

When building a high performance engine the question of ignition system upgrades always comes up. Getting more energy to the spark plugs results in more complete combustion, better throttle response, and often more power.

Whether you’re building an old school pushrod powered ride, or a new high-tech Coyote engine for your project, Pertronix has you covered for your ignition needs with their line of Flamethrower ignition products. With their recently release of Flame-Thrower coils for Ford coil-on-plug ignition systems we thought we’d take a look at the full line of Flame-Thrower coils from Pertronix.

Flame-Thrower I, II, and III
If you need a canister coil check out the Flamethrower I, II, and III series coils. Offering from 40,000 to 45,000 volts of spark energy and incredibly low resistance these coils are a great stock or high performance replacement. The Flamethrower III will only work with Pertronix Ignitor III ignition control system. All of these coils are available in black, or chrome, so customers can go for a custom or stock look.


Flame-Thrower HV
These coils are compatible with most aftermarket capacitive discharge ignition systems and deliver 60,000 volts of spark energy with just 0.45 ohm resistance. A special heat sink keeps the coil’s temperature under control. This coil is ideal for street, strip, or even off-road applications.

Flame-Thrower HC
Designed to work with the Ignitor III ignition system the Flame-Thrower HC delivers an impressive 60,000 volts of energy at just 0.32 ohm resistance. With precision machined brass terminals, a 6061 heat sink, and rapid recharge times this coil will provide high spark energy in the most demanding applications.
Ford Coil On Plug


Whether you’re building a two, three, or four-valve Ford modular engine for your project, Pertronix has a coil for you. These newest coils from Pertronix deliver 30,000 volts of spark energy to each cylinder. They feature high quality construction with copper plated terminals, high-temp boots, epoxy molding, and ferrite suppressed secondary pathways. Pertronix says these coils have no degradation in performance all the way to 11,000 RPM. That’s performance well above what most enthusiasts will ever spin their engines at.
