Tanner Foust won the second round of the 2010 RallyCar U.S. Rallycross Championship during a dramatic A Main final event on Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. Foust drove his Rockstar Ford Fiesta in rainy conditions to a finish time of 5 minutes, 47.6 seconds – 6.37 seconds quicker than Subaru Rally Team USA driver Dave Mirra and 16.2 seconds ahead of Citroen driver Liam Doran.
Officials restarted the AWD class A Main after Doran crashed into a tirewall on the second lap due to a puncture. On the restart of the A Main, Foust jumped off the line and dominated the race. The win was Foust’s second victory in the new RallyCar U.S. Rallycross Championship and he was pleased with his result.
“It was chaos, but that’s what this sport’s about,” Foust said afterward. “It’s even more rewarding to come out on top when there’s so much going on. It was good fun, though!” In addition to winning the first U.S. Rallycross event here, Foust took a pair of golds in rally competition at the 2010 X Games and has also been competitive during events in Europe, where the sport has its roots.
Foust had qualified second to Mirra’s 1:08:196 time on Friday. Mirra took second overall in AWD, for his highest rally car career finish. Doran restarted from the back of the field, moving up to take the last podium spot. European Rallycross Champion, Jussi Pinomaki, placed fourth overall in his U.S. debut, driving an Olbergs MSE 2006 Ford Fiesta.
Round three of the U.S. Rallycross Championships takes place at New Jersey Motorsports Park on November 6-7.
